Safety is of the utmost importance to Whistler Blackcomb and mountain operations teams are working hard to ensure the high alpine zones are safe before opening them to the public. Whistler Blackcomb is not opening the high alpine this weekend.  Here's why:   Controlled avalanche in Harmony Zone - November 25, 2011   Controlled avalanche in Harmony Zone - November 25, 2011 Residual snowpack from last season, heavy snowfall over the last 2 weeks and high winds in the alpine have created challenging avalanche conditions. The above photos are of a controlled avalanche that occurred in Harmony Zone on Whistler Mountain. This area is currently outside Whistler Blackcomb's Temporary Ski Area Boundary. It was intentionally triggered by Whistler Blackcomb ski patrol as they conducted avalanche control with explosives. The avalanche forecast for this weekend is High, meaning natural avalanches are likely and human triggered avalanches are very likely. For more ...
